If you already had a home game at Alverthorpe, you would have seen the extreme field conditions we are asking our players to use.  There are now TWO complete baseball fields at each end of our football field.  The sand surface was expanded for optimal baseball usage without considering the impact to youth football.  The sand surface does not grow grass, feels like sandpaper over your skin when players are being tackled and will continue to harden without proper drainage and maintenance.  There are long stretches of 'seams' where the grass and sand surface meet, making it nearly unusable.

So... what can we do?  More importantly... what can YOU do?  The Raider Executive Committee is asking our members to reach out to your Township Commissioner and let them know that you have a problem with the playing conditions of the Alverthorpe Football Field.  Express to them how our own football complex would ensure a safe and usable football field.  There is no right or wrong way to contact your Township Commissioner, but by doing so, YOU are taking action.

"Hi Kevin,

I just wanted to update you on NIck's progress.  He is currently a red-shirt freshman at Florida State University and is second on the depth chart at the rover position. I would like to forward a current photo and let you know that you can follow his progress on Warchant.com.  He played in his first nationally televised college game  on ESPN against University of Miami this past Monday, 7 Sept 09.  He is #10.

Nick got his football start with the Abington Raiders and our gratitude goes out to all the coaches, but in particular Bill Hack, Sr., John Geiger and Jordan Ewell. These three coaches always believed in Nick's ability and dedication to the game and gave him an opportunity to develop his skills, think the game and follow the rules of good sportsmanship.  That is such an important foundation for a young athlete.
